CEO

Dr. Tsang currently serves as CEO of Valera Health, a newly funded behavioral healthcare start up aimed at leveraging digital technology and analytics to integrate behavioral wellness with primary care. Until October of this year Dr. Tsang served as the Chief Medical Officer at Merck’s Healthcare Services and Solutions unit focused on evidenced based solutions. In this role, he was responsible for driving value creation across the healthcare ecosystem for broad stakeholders from health IT assets, as well as strategic acquisitions/partnerships.

Prior to this role, he served as the Executive Director of Global Health Information and Innovation, also at Merck. Dr. Tsang developed strategies on leveraging health information technology and solutions to improve patient outcomes and support the delivery of optimal care by providers. He also contributed to global enterprise-wide initiatives on novel uses of digital healthcare.

Starting in 2010 Dr. Tang helped lead the development of the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and quality provisions in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as a Congressional staff member. Dr. Tsang also contributed to the development of ACO regulations along with the development of a national framework for the use of health information technology and electronic health records to improve coordination and quality as Medical Director at the Office of the National Coordinator for HIT. He is serves as an advisor to several health technology companies including Sutherland Healthcare, Acupera and is a Clinician in Residence at the Cornell Tech Small Data Lab.

Dr. Tsang completed a combined BS/M.D. from the CUNY/ SUNY Stony Brook University School of Medicine, an MPH from Columbia’s College of Physicians and Surgeons and a Primary Internal Medicine Residency Program at Montefiore Medical Center.
